Eight days and seven nights is enough to see the island's defining contrasts without spending every day in the vehicle. The outline below follows our classic small-group tour. The photography expedition covers much of the same ground but gives more time to first and last light, while a private trip can change the order and pace.
Days 1–2: eastern coast and Homhil
Day one takes in the Arher dunes, snorkelling and Ras Erisel, introducing the contrast between white sand, sea and rock that defines eastern Socotra.
Day two returns to Arher before climbing into Homhil Protected Area, where layered rock terraces frame cliffside pools and highland trees. The change of landscape is part of the route, not a detour.
Days 3–5: canyon, dunes and the land of dragon blood trees
The route continues through Kalysan Canyon, Deguub Cave and the Zahek dunes before climbing onto the Diksam Plateau.
Firmihin Forest is the heart of the dragon blood tree landscape. From there, the route crosses Diksam and descends toward Detwah Lagoon, linking one of the island's most otherworldly forests with one of its most open coastal landscapes.
Day 6: Detwah Lagoon
Day six moves from the highlands to Detwah Lagoon. The shallow water, broad sandbar and changing light make this a natural pause after several days on the road.
Your camp is set close to the lagoon. That leaves room for sunset and, depending on the day's timing, a quiet walk beside the water.
Days 7–8: west coast and departure
On the small-group route, day seven heads out by boat toward Shuab Beach before continuing to Qalansiyah. Boat schedules and sea conditions determine whether the water excursion can go ahead; the land route stays flexible around them.
Day eight is departure. Flight timing shapes the final morning, so the airport transfer is planned around the confirmed airline schedule. The photography expedition covers similar landscapes but changes some locations to prioritise first and last light.
