There is no single best month for every traveller. The right window depends on whether you prefer milder coastal weather, cooler nights on the plateau, a particular photography schedule, or a private trip built around your family. The one fixed boundary is the island season.
The travel window
Our camp opens on the last Thursday of September and closes on the first Thursday of May. During the monsoon months between those dates, flights stop and the camp is not operating.
For the current season, the dates are 24 September 2026 to 6 May 2027. Treat this as the framework, then choose departure dates within it.
Coast and plateau feel different
Days are warm on the Diksam plateau and nights are cool; the coast stays milder. The day-to-night temperature swing is noticeable, so layers matter more than a single heavy jacket.
The camp is powered by solar panels or a generator and has a dedicated charging area outside the tents. Starlink is available for messaging and basic work; Diksam also has hot showers. Pack layers rather than relying on one heavy jacket. Cool nights are part of the highland experience, so do not let them put you off the interior.
Choose light, not just temperature
Photography departures follow sunrise and sunset rather than a fixed sightseeing clock. If light is the reason for your trip, compare the scheduled photography dates instead of choosing a month from weather alone.
Private journeys can build more flexibility around your dates, but the camp season and flight availability still set the outer limits.
