Why do you have to go to Socotra?
Step Into Another World: Socotra Island
Imagine stepping onto another planet, where surreal, otherworldly trees twist and turn like spinning umbrellas. Picture wandering through a landscape reminiscent of *Jurassic Park*, where bizarre bottle trees cling to jagged peaks that rise beyond the clouds, and streams flow into lush oases, surrounded by dense vegetation—sanctuaries for species from a long-forgotten era.
The landscape of Socotra Island remains untouched by modern civilization, a place where time stands still. Vast barren plains, majestic plateaus, deep canyons, and mysterious caves blend seamlessly with picturesque stone houses and ramshackle buildings in remote settlements, forming a scene that feels as if it were lifted from the pages of prehistory.
At either end of the island, towering cliffs rise like colossal medieval battlements, dotted with what appear to be ancient firing holes. These cliffs were the first sight that greeted ancient sailors, likely filling them with both awe and trepidation. One can easily imagine the legendary sailor Sinbad standing at the bow of his ship, gazing intently at the Ras Momi cliffs to the east or the Ras Bidu cliffs to the west, contemplating the adventures that awaited him onshore.
In 53 AD, the Apostle Thomas was shipwrecked on his journey to India. He remained on Socotra, baptizing the island’s inhabitants, who continued to practice Christianity until the 19th century.
Today, the Socotra Archipelago has retained much of its ancient allure. Since the first explorers arrived, little has changed. Mountains adorned with Dragon’s Blood Trees, Frankincense Trees, and other rare flora await modern-day adventurers. Here, you can marvel at dramatic canyons, swim in turquoise natural pools, and take in breathtaking, otherworldly vistas.
For beach lovers, Socotra offers pristine, untouched sandy shores. For naturalists, the rocky coasts teem with unique flora and fauna, while the vibrant underwater world promises unforgettable exploration.
Bird enthusiasts will be delighted to find most of Socotra's endemic species within just a few days. Whether you prefer relaxing walks or challenging hikes, scenic drives, caving, boat trips or even camel rides, Socotra has something to offer every nature and adventure lover.
As you journey across the island, you’ll meet warm and welcoming nomadic herders and fishermen, eager to share stories of their lives and traditions. Their hospitality and deep connection to this extraordinary land will leave an indelible mark on every traveler who visits Socotra, a place where ancient wonders continue to thrive in harmony with the natural world.
Why Choose Socotra Luxury Camp?
Before embarking on your journey, it’s essential to understand the local living conditions on Socotra Island.
**Camping Options**
**Standard Camping:**
In most standard camps, you’ll sleep in a basic single tent with a thin travel mattress and a sleeping bag or sheet. Facilities are shared, with many people using the same bathroom and toilet. Charging devices can be challenging, and there is usually no internet access.
**Socotra Luxury Camp:**
Our camp features 8 spacious and fully equipped luxury twin-bed tents, offering:
- Comfortable bedding
- Rugs, tables, chairs, and camp lanterns
- Shaded canopies for relaxation
Additionally, we provide:
- 4 private bathrooms with hot showers (exclusively for camp guests)
- A dedicated kitchen
- A dining tent and a tea break canopy
For convenience and connectivity, the camp is equipped with solar-powered energy systems, a backup generator, and Starlink internet, ensuring you can charge your devices and stay connected at all times.
**Hotel Accommodations**
While there are a few hotels in Hadiboh, the capital city, we recommend avoiding overnight stays there. Hadiboh is noisy, crowded, and lacks scenic appeal. There are many mosquitoes, and the overall environment may not meet the expectations of travelers seeking tranquility.
However, just a 20-minute drive east of Hadiboh, you’ll find two serene valleys teeming with birdlife—an ideal spot to enjoy Socotra’s stunning sunsets. Watching young fishermen and children play in palm-lined ponds or joining elderly locals for evening conversations by the sea is a memorable experience.
Our carefully selected hotel is located in this peaceful area, offering:
- Clean and comfortable twin or double rooms with private bathroom
- Air conditioning
- Wi-Fi access
It is considered the best accommodation on the island, providing both comfort and convenience in a beautiful setting.
**Dining Experience**
In most tours, guides prepare simple meals such as rice, pasta, stewed vegetables, and traditional fish. Some groups may include a cook, but the options are usually limited.
At **Socotra Luxury Camp**, we take dining to the next level:
- Our dedicated chef prepares a variety of flavorful dishes using fresh, local ingredients.
- Meals are complemented by fruits, snacks, tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
- A dedicated food truck accompanies us on excursions, ensuring that you enjoy freshly prepared, delicious meals on time throughout your journey.
With Socotra Luxury Camp, you can explore the island in comfort, savor delightful meals, and experience the best of Socotra’s natural beauty without compromising on quality or convenience.

Weather and Seasons on Socotra Island
While Socotra Island enjoys a relatively mild climate (around 25ºC at night and 33ºC during the day), it also experiences distinct seasonal changes. It’s important to consider these variations when planning your trip.
October to November
The tourist season begins in late September, marking the end of the monsoon period. From September to October, the weather is typically warm and calm. After the summer monsoons, the island appears fresh and clean. Although the landscape may lack lush greenery, it is an excellent time for sea activities, diving, boat trips, and hiking. Occasional intermittent rainfall may occur, with water flowing down the slopes and forming rapid streams in Socotra’s canyons. It is important to carefully avoid potential hazards when relocating camping sites.
December to January: The “Velvet” Season
December to January is considered Socotra's “velvet” season when all the trees are in full leaf. This is the best time for walks and hiking. The northeast winds create ideal conditions for kite surfing, though they may also cause rough seas, limiting diving activities.
February to April: Socotra’s Most Beautiful Season
From February to April, Socotra is at its most beautiful. The iconic dragon blood trees and desert roses (which resemble barrels) are in full bloom, and the seas calm down. The only drawback during this period is the increase in tourist numbers, coupled with slightly warmer weather and weaker winds. This is the best time for sea excursions and diving on Socotra Island.
May to September: The Monsoon Period
From May to September, strong monsoon winds dominate, especially from June to August. As the winds pick up, the dry soil and dust are blown into the air. In the mountainous regions, temperatures can drop to +12ºC. High waves make it difficult for fishermen to venture out to sea, and travel becomes challenging during this period.
